Schlager has gained much notoriety for his research on infectious diseases and countless other concerns that affect both patients and medical professionals. For his undying loyalty to the medical field, Sy Schlager has been awarded several special recognitions, including First Prize at the Sigma Xi Society Research Forum at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Members of Sigma Xi sponsor this forum in order to discuss cutting edge ethic issues in research. The forum consists of five to six experts who each speak for about five minutes on a specific ethical issue. Afterwards, an interplay between the panelists and audience members takes place.
Sy Schlager has also been awarded the U.S. Public Health Service Traineeship in Oncology and the Milan V. Novak Prize in Microbiology from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Sy Schlager is a recipient of the American Association of Immunologists International Congress Travel Award.
